Active 2008 Rules Posted

Rules for Driver Education, Time Trials, and Autocross have been posted.

The most significant change is that the car classifications have changed so that the slower cars have car classes closer to the beginning of the alphabet and the faster cars have letters further down the alphabet. Please note that you will most likely be competing against the same cars you did last year.

Active BIR Club Race is a Success Good weather, fast racing, and great people made this year's Club Race a success!

There were 45 club racers, 60 DE drivers, and plenty of vintage cars at the race.

Thanks to all sponsors and volunteers who help make this an outstanding event. A special thanks goes to Roger Johnson for all the work he does to get this running so smoothly every year!

Active New Website, but you already noticed that! Finally, a new web site for Nord Stern is up and running..The previous Nord Stern website was created over 10 years ago. This new site was a complete redo. It has most of the information from the previous site, but was designed to provide current and relevant information to the Nord Stern community and to increase awareness of the club’s value to potential new members. The site has been designed for the quick addition of new information. This new site was created by Bret Bailey and is hosted at Tela. 1000   view

Inactive Passing Signals at DE's Change The new rule on passing signals at DE's is here. The driver of the car being overtaken shall signal an overtaking car with a hand signal to initiate a pass. The hand signal shall be a pointing gesture of either the left or right hand with the arm extended. A left pointing signal shall extend the left hand/arm out of the driver’s side window in a manner to be clearly seen by the overtaking car. A right pointing signal shall be done by keeping the right hand/arm inside the car in such a manner to be clearly seen by the overtaking car. The driver of the overtaken car should use animated signals of the hand/arm to enhance the communication of the driver’s intent. The pointing signal to the left means the overtaking vehicle shall pass on the left, and a pointing signal to the right means that the overtaking vehicle shall pass on the right.

Since some of the cars have roll bars or safety cages which will obstruct some view of the driver in the car being overtaken, the driver should make every effort to make a clear and obvious signal. The wearing of colored gloves is encouraged to make the hand signal more visible.

A separate signal shall be given for each car when there are multiple cars in line for passing. An overtaking car may not pass unless a clear and obvious signal has been given to that overtaking car.

The overtaking car, when given an invitation to pass, is responsible for moving off line and safely completing the pass on the side directed by the overtaken vehicle. If required, the overtaken car must slow sufficiently to allow the overtaking car to make a safe pass. No passing is allowed unless there is a proper hand signal inviting a pass, and the overtaking vehicle has no obligation to pass and may decline the invitation.

Active Nord Stern's "Race For Courage 2007" netted Courage Center $15,500!!! Nord Stern's "Race For Courage 2007" netted Courage Center $15,500!!!

This is an outstanding number when you consider all the donations were made by Nord Stern members or friends and all the winning bids were by Nord Stern members or friends.

Special thanks go to Steve Beddor for donating use of the Quattro garage. To Mathew Hall lumber for sponsoring the raffle artwork. To Roger Johnson and our race sponsors who covered the tables expenses... Due to those people, we were able to give every single dollar we raised to Courage Center!

Thanks also to Emily Matzke from Courage Center and her husband Marcus for spending their weekend with our club. (Marcus is still grinning from the parade laps, Jon).

Thanks to Bruce Boeder for being our outstanding auctioneer. To Mary Grace Arndt, Rachael Rothman, Michelle Smith, and their friends for being runners and table watchers. My wife Susan for understanding all the evenings of me standing over the copier. Also, to Christie Boeder and Jon Beatty for handling parade laps, etc. Thanks to Roy, Lon, Phil, Mark, and the rest of the 356/944 crew for setting up and tearing down tables.

An incredible thanks to the 45 donors who donated the 132 items. You make that part of my job so easy, I ask, "would you?" and you say "absolutely!" (Don Bodin from the Vintage Club has already agreed to donate a couple Donnybrooke race school passes next year!)

Lastly, thanks to all the Nord Stern and VSCR bidders who made this weekend such a success!

Inactive Windows and Passing Rules Change for DE There have been some changes made to the DE rules in the interest of safety and to be consistent with most other regions. These rules will be fully explained in the drivers meeting at First Fling.

PASSING RULES

Passing may be accomplished on any straightaway where the driver of the car being overtaken feels that the pass can be completed before the turn in point for the next corner and with reasonable safety. No pass may be initiated until the passing signal has been clearly given by the driver of the car being passed. It is the lead car’s responsibility to watch his or her mirrors, select a proper passing zone, signal the driver of the overtaking car and slow sufficiently to allow the pass to be completed safely before the turn in point of the next corner. The car being passed shall drive on the driving line. Do not follow to closely, regardless of the speed differential. Following to closely is dangerous and may result in the driver’s expulsion from the event.

WINDOWS DOWN

Windows shall be down on either side where there is an occupant when on the track. It is strongly encouraged to install a window net on the driver’s side.

PASSING SIGNAL
